Aim and description of the project.
 
1.
 Help to destitute homeless children by providing home, education and medical care.
Update Feb. 2002: 32 children study and live in the Home for Destitute Children .

Ramana,s Garden is not only an institute for homeless children, but also an institute that care's for all poor children in the region. A lot of these children belongs to the category of the untouchables. As part of our commitment to every child's right to education, we provide books, all school materials, uniforms, shoes, hot lunch and warm winter clothing to these children from age 3 onwards. Each child is given the opportunity to learn to read and write Hindi as well as English. We also provide classes in Hygiene, Health and First-Aid. Each child is given a chance to discover and develop their own creativity through music, dance, drama, art, and yoga.
Update Feb. 2002: 65 of these children now come daily for study to Ramana's Garden.

This year we launched our Child Health Ambassador program. We discovered that the children themselves were much better at helping their parents and fellow villagers adapt new and better hygiene and health habits than we were. The children proved to be great teachers and the entire village reaps the benefits.

Vegetable garden. As we provide hot lunch for a lot of children and for our own staff every day we grow most of our own green vegetables to supply not only the children in school but also their entire Headquarters staff. Extra hands are always welcome in the garden.
 
Aim of the project
By helping and educating these children we work directly on a better future for them and in this way we work on a better perspectives for the poor people in the whole region. By the formula of the special friend this project works on creating a better understanding between people from poor regions and people from wealthy regions.
 
Special friend
This project will be set up by creating the formula of special friends for the homeless and destitute children. A special friend is a person who care's for one or more of the children. From our site we will stimulate the children to have regular communication with their special friend . The special friend will help a child in sponsoring this project by giving a monthly donation.
  
Planning of the project.
 
The children are helped until they are able to live their own live. So there are children leaving and there are children coming. For the near future we expect that the number of children will fast increase as a result of the terrible fights in the nearby region of Nepal. The project has a continuous character. Although we hope that every special friend will continue the necessary financial support for years, there is also the possibility to limit the support.
 
Project approach and organisation.
 
The financing of this project will be organised by the Dutch Stichting Namaste India. For an individual sponsor there are three possibilities to support this project:
 
1. A sponsor will become the special friend of a child that is living intern in Ramana's garden and he/she will sponsor € 25 each month.
2. A sponsor will become the special friend of a destinate extern child who is provided by Ramana's garden by education, lunch, clothes etc. and he/she is sponsoring 15 € each month.
3. A sponsor will in general support the project by giving money. This can be a certain amount in one time or an amount of 25 € or 15€ every month.
 
The project is largely financed by the formula of sponsoring by special friends. A special friend will receive a paper with information and photo from the child that is sponsored. A special friend will donate per child. For this amount Ramana's Garden will provide the necessary help as described by the project description for this child and if necessary the money will also partly used for the other children.
  
Project targets. Who will control the project targets and the financial targets? How will you going to report about the project?
   
Ramana's Garden will provide for help as many children as possible. The exact number is also depending from the financial possibilities. The target is to help at least the 35 children that we have already intern in the house and the 65 extern children.
 
The financial support by the special friend will be arranged by the Dutch Stichting Namaste India.
 
Controlling
The Stichting will control 1 or 2 times a year this project by controlling the provided children in Ramana's Garden. They will also follow the project by regular asking the sponsors/special friends about there correspondation with the children.
 
Report
1. The organisation Ramana's garden will report to the Stichting Namaste India at least two times a year about: the subjects 1 to 4 as mentioned under the project description and about the use of the financial support given by the sponsors
2. The organisation Ramana's garden will take care that each special friend will receive at least two times a year a letter in English or other information from the child that is supported.
 
Costs of the project. The financing of the project. The necessary subsidy.
   
The project as described before cost about € 2000 per month or about € 24.000 per year. The total cost depends for a large part on the number of children we are helping.
